Lately, I have seen a rabbit in our yard and I believe it is an Eastern Cottontail which is the only kind of rabbit I have seen out "in the wild." I have previously seen him in the far part of our yard, hopping out from under some bushes. Once I saw a second one (maybe his wife?). They were both in view at the same time, otherwise I wouldn't have known it was a different rabbit (they looked the same). It's fortunate Blue hasn't noticed him (or her) because I think their encounter would have a pretty sad ending for the rabbit. No doubt it could outrun Blue, but it might not be able to get beyond the fence easily. Today it was much closer to the house. It came hopping out from alongside the deck and then headed to the far part of the yard and into the bushes.
Now I'm not sure it's an Eastern Cottontail. Maybe it's a New England Cottontail.Labels: rabbits
