We're having the biggest freaking snowstorm of the season today. When I got up, it was just gray and windy so my plan to go to Rockport was still on. Then around 10 something, it started to snow a bit. I packed the car and then I went to the mechanic to get one of my headlights replaced before leaving. It ended up taking a lot longer because the headlight the Honda people sent over didn't fit so he had to rush order another one and said it would be there in about 20 minutes.

By this time, the snow fall had increased in intensity, and I was starting to have second thoughts about my trip. I decided to call Rockport and it was decided that it would be a bad idea for me to come up because the weather was supposed to be AWFUL and we'd be cooped up inside. And of course, you know I have un-done homework and a weekend at home sounds good anyway, so that's what I decided to have.

After FINALLY getting the headlight replaced (to the tune of $48), I went home and Sweetie arrived a few minutes later having left work early. So the afternoon was spent unpacking (!) everything, folding laundry, watching a little NCAA action, having a little nap with Sweetie, yelling at Blue to stop barking already (when not telling him how cute he is) and surfing about on the computer. Additionally, I read two articles on my paper topic while I was waiting at the mechanic.

And it's still snowing.

Watching: Battlestar Galactica, Season 2 or 2.5 or whatever it's called. Whatever it's called, it totally rules.

Monk, Season One. This show is all right, but the mysteries don't compare to the Miss Marples and Poirots that I love. I do like the two main characters, and the crime solving duo who solves mysteries the police can't, is a time-honored premise that always works. However, I get a little sick of the rather heavy handed depiction of Monk's OCDs for comic relief. It's just too obvious and unrealistic after a while.

I'm planning a trip to Rockport on Friday and this is the forecast: "The potential exists for 6 or more inches of snow and sleet accumulation late Thursday night into Friday... with the highest confidence north of the Massachusetts Turnpike." Yes, the storm is scheduled for exactly when and where I'm driving. And yesterday and today I drove home with my sun roof open. Such is New England weather...

I have been being a total slacker as far as schoolwork is concerned. There is a homework assignment due next class, and I haven't done it yet, but the main thing I should really be doing is gathering and reading material for my paper. And I haven't been doing that either. I have no idea how I'm going to write a 10 page paper on errors in cataloging. Of course, it would help if I started reading up on it, right? Well, maybe if the weather really turns out to be bad, I'll stay home and study this weekend.

One thing I haven't been slacking on is working out. I did weights on Monday, 30 minutes of cardio Tuesday, 40 minutes of cardio today, and tomorrow it's weights again. I haven't gotten on the scale because I don't want the potential number to discourage me. I was really being a chunky monkey, bingeing a lot in the previous weeks, but my eating has been good this week. Still, there's always the possibility that it won't show on the scale, plus I may still have some of the previous "chunky monkey-ness" to work off.

Watching: The Simpsons, Season Two.
Listening: Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark.

I was feeling relatively happy this morning, and then I went outside and fell on my a**. It was snowing lightly (very pretty) and there was a fine coating of snow over some ice on the lawn. I went out to start my car, and then when I went back into the house, I walked across the ice instead of going to the non-icy part of the yard, and the next thing I knew I was on my a**. Fortunately, no one was driving or walking by to laugh at me. I don't find falling funny because one, it usually hurts and two, I hate to be laughed at for something I can't really control. I guess falling could be funny, but I'm a klutz, and there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it. I'm always banging into the coffee table or miscalculating how much room there is between me and something else and then banging into it and getting bruises.

Falling down didn't totally ruin my day or anything, but it certainly didn't make it better.

I haven't been posting because I've been really unhappy. I hate my new job and wish I hadn't taken it, and I'm just going around feeling uncomfortable all the time. I know compared to most people in the world - the Sudan anyone? Iraq? or even just a few blocks away on housing project hill - that I have things pretty good. I also know part of my discomfort is New Job - itis, and that I may soon feel less awful about the whole thing. I hope so anyway.

Other things in the world: the snow and ice we got last week has frozen into a solid layer that I can walk on top of without falling through. The snow makes dog poop very easy to spot, but sometimes hard to pick up because it's frozen down (aren't you glad I shared that?).

I had $448 in car repairs done yesterday - this includes an oil change and a new battery that my mechanic suggested, in addition to the other issues. I hope he's honest; I think he is. The car seems to running very well now, not doing that weird revving thing it was doing before.

I have been needing / wanting a new, more spacious desk for a while, and we went and bought one at Ikea on Saturday. We also got a desk chair and a floor lamp. Everything, except for the lamp, is still in boxes and needs to be assembled. I'm calling and paying someone to do it because I've heard too many jokes about people who try to assemble Ikea furniture themselves. The lamp I assembled myself, but I don't like the light it gives. Sweetie likes it well enough, but says we can bring it back if I want to.

The basement of my mom and sister's condo got flooded partially because their parking area didn't get plowed. My sister lives in basement and has had to have the carpet ripped up and the floor redone, all on her own dime. I think the person who was responsible for plowing should contribute (he's the condo association president), but for whatever reason he's not. I was upset for her and told her she should make him pay for it or at least yell at him. But then I realized it's none of my business and I called her back before class on Saturday to say I hope I hadn't made her feel bad because it's really not my business.

I guess that about sums it up.

We are getting totally ICED in here. There only a little snow accumulation; mostly we're getting pelted with sleet and freezing rain. Definitely not a day for driving. The DJ on
WWUH said that it took him an hour to make what is ordinarily a 20 minute drive. It's BAD out there, and it's supposed to continue throughout the day so I decided to "take a snow day" or in this case, an "ice day." Sweetie stayed home too. I just lit a java-log in the fireplace so it's nice and cozy here.
